Bishop Gorman High football coach Tony Sanchez says a report late Wednesday indicating he’ll be the next UNLV football coach is premature.

Sanchez emerged last week as the leading candidate to replace Bobby Hauck, but says nothing has been decided. He declined to say if he’s been offered the job.

“No decision has been made by either party,” he said. “I haven’t made a decision on what I am going to do.”

The report says an announcement will be made following Gorman’s state championship game Saturday against Reed.

“Who knows what will transpire in the next week,” Sanchez said.

The Gaels are playing for their sixth straight state championship, transforming into a national power since Sanchez was hired in 2009. They are ranked No. 1 nationally and would be the mythical national champions with the win.

Sanchez reiterated what he said last week after the state semifinals — his sole focus is preparing for Saturday’s game.
