Raise your hand if you started Ryan Tannehill, Frank Gore, Jonathan Stewart, and Luke Willson in your fantasy championship. No? What about Eli Manning to Rueben Randle against one of the league’s top defenses over the past month of the season?
There was a decent amount of scoring in Week 16—particularly in the late contests—but hardly any of it came from the usual suspects. Check that: Odell Beckham Jr. continues to prove me wrong with a measly line of 8/148/2 to lead all wide receivers, but that’s basically his average stat line at this point.
132.5: Eli Manning’s passer rating when targeting Odell Beckham in 2014
We hear all the time about how much a great quarterback can help a wide receiver, but the reverse is also true, and Odell Beckham is Exhibit A.
Beckham is currently 12th in the NFL in receiving yards and fourth among wide receiver in touchdowns despite being just 26th in targets. When throwing to the rookie, quarterback Eli Manning has thrown for 10.4 YPA, which is ridiculous, with an 11-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. His 132.5 passer rating leads the NFL.
As long as Beckham is healthy, the Giants have a sneaky explosive offense heading into 2015.
0.11: Andrew Luck’s fantasy points per dropback
I’m ashamed to admit that Luck was my top fantasy quarterback in Week 16. Somehow, some way, the Dallas Cowboys turned one of the game’s great quarterbacks into the least-efficient passer in the league on Sunday; Luck’s 0.11 fantasy points per dropback ranked last. All but four quarterbacks doubled Luck’s efficiency through the air.
The Cowboys beat Luck by not letting him get the ball downfield, which was made easier due to the absence of T.Y. Hilton. Luck actually completed 15 of his 22 passes, but threw two picks and managed only 109 yards. His average pass traveled just 6.2 yards past the line-of-scrimmage, per Pro Football Focus.
3.06: Julio Jones’ yards per route
Jones was somewhat limited after being a true game-time decision on Sunday, but he quietly caught all seven of his targets. Jones managed 107 yards on just 35 pass snaps—good for 3.06 yards per route. The number actually increased Jones’ efficiency to 2.83 yards per route on the season, which ranks him second in the NFL behind A.J. Green.
Need evidence that yards per route is an accurate indicator of receiver quality? Consider that Demaryius Thomas, Dez Bryant, and Beckham round out the top five.
9.8: Marshawn Lynch’s YPC after contact
Beast Mode went Beast Mode on Sunday night, recording 9.8 yards per carry after contact, according to Pro Football Focus, which led the league. That’s nearly a full first down per run after getting hit. His 79-yard highlight-reel touchdown run certainly helped his cause.
Lynch isn’t typically considered an elusive running back, but he leads the NFL not only in yards after contact per carry, but also in forcing missed tackles. Actually, Pro Football Focus has tracked Lynch as forcing 85 missed tackles on his runs, which are 25 more than any other running back in the league.
When you consider that DeMarco Murray and Arian Foster also rank in the top four in missed tackles forced, you can get a sense that forcing defenders to miss is perhaps easier with power than true agility.
30: Percentage of all Week 16 tight end drops from Dwayne Allen
It was a game to forget all around for the Colts, particularly tight end Dwayne Allen. Despite not playing for much of the game, Allen dropped three passes against the Cowboys. Here’s a look at how poorly Allen played in Week 16 compared to all other tight ends.
Allen: 3 targets, 3 drops (100%)
All other tight ends: 201 targets, 7 drops (3.5%)

The top tight end in Week 16 was undoubtedly Zach Ertz, who came out of nowhere to nab a franchise-record 15 passes. I was bullish on Ertz in the preseason, but I had no idea he was planning to provide his entire season’s worth of production (actually just 28 percent) in a single game.
