Maserati marks centenary with 50,000th unit at Grugliasco

Maserati is celebrating its centenary this year, but if that wasn't enough of a milestone, the Trident marque has reached another, completing its 50,000th unit at its plant in Grugliasco.

Whether 50,000 seems like a lot or a little depends largely on your perspective. Toyota, for example, sold over three times that many cars in the United States alone just this past month. But for Maserati and the Grugliasco plant, it's an awful lot.

The plant was acquired not long ago from the failed Bertone coachbuilding operation to bolster the principal site in Modena. It just kicked off production barely two years ago in January 2013 and handles assembly of the Quattroporte and Ghibli – Maserati's top sellers, but hardly what you'd call "volume models" by any means.

The landmark 50,000th vehicle was a Quattroporte S Q4 in dark grey with a red and black interior, bound for the US market that's reaching new sales records for the ambitious Mondenese automaker.News Source: MaseratiPlants/ManufacturingMaseratiSedanLuxuryPerformanceanniversaryassemblycentenarycentennialgrugliascomaseratimaserati quattroportemilestoneMaserati Information

Looks like Fiat/Chrysler has got the Maserati brand in a very competitive position in the global luxury market with a compelling line up of vehicles. Capitalizing on it's Chrysler and Ferrari relationships, Maserati has established a clear vision for growth for the Maserati brand and a formula of sharing engineering costs and developmental assets within the corporate family that will help other brands within that family to prosper. I'm excited also about Alfa Romeo as it and Dodge work closely on a number of platforms and vehicles that will put these two brands on a path that resembles the Chrysler/Maserati formula to sharing and improving each others assets, while also diminishing developmental costs and maximizing international engineering talent. As a Chrysler loyalist. I am intently looking forward to a little bit of Maserati in my next Chrysler. I believe that there is so much potential in the Chrysler/Fiat corporate business entity, that FCA clearly can be a significant and profitable player in the global automotive industry. This cross continent 21st century business has created or is creating, a unique personality for it's vehicles that draws on an engineering and design culture and talent pool unlike any other. Maserati is just a beginning in that special product relationship, which will set FCA apart with the best of international talent. Unique indeed !
