After Peter Wald died in March of 2013, he was bagged instead of buried.
Hoping they could bring him back to life, Wald’s wife Kaling and their five kids prayed over the decomposing body.
"There clearly was an over-exuberance of one's faith" attorney Janet Booy told a judge during sentencing this week.
The Hamilton Spectator reports Kaling taped off air ducts and sealed windows to keep the smell from escaping the room. She also wrapped the body in plastic.
The morbid scene wasn’t discovered until deputies showed up to evict the family for not paying their mortgage.
"We were trusting God. We thought, 'OK Lord, you know better," Kaling told the court.
Wald initially faced charges of neglect of duty regarding a dead body and offering an indignity to a body. Because everyone agrees she meant no harm, it was reduced to failing to notify police or the coroner of the death.
This week, the sentence was suspended and Wald was ordered to seek counseling.
